The Nitrates Directive has the potential to cause major difficulties for Irish farmers if not managed correctly. To this end, AgriData Ltd have put a completely new section into our farm system that will prove a major assistance in the complex calculations that are required.

The system is designed to perform the following calculations:

1. Stock Calculations

2. Water Calculations

3. Dungstead Calculations

4. Slurry Calculations

5. Nitrogen Calculations (imports and exports, organic and chemical)

The system  not only takes historical information to date, but can also FORWARD calculate the situation to the end of the year. This allows better planning decisions and forcasts to be made. (This feature will be available from January 2008 in Version 12)

3/4 Hour Nitrates Solution

To give you an idea of just how easy your calculations can be, you can take a blank system with no data in it and perform the following steps.

Download the movements in and movements out from the DAF website through eservices. (15 mins max)

1. 
   Download your current herd profile. (1 Minute)
2. 
   Import the above data into the AgriManage system (5 Minutes)
3. 
   Enter the measurements of your Dungstead areas, your covered and uncovered slurry and water catchment areas. (10 Minutes)
4. 
   Enter your net Grazing area (1 Minute)
5. 
   Get the system to back-calculate the stocking rates, nitrates / phosphates, slurry storage requirements and other requirements. (10 Mins)
6. 
   You now have most of the calculations regarding the Nitrates Directive performed and it has taken you les than 45 minutes!
